To evaluate the efficacy of the Protect 200 in rendering airborne five clinical isolates of Acinetobacter species.

The Protect 200 unit was placed inside a plastic enclosure (52cm x 41cm x 32cm). The test enclosure volume was approximately 68 litres. The plastic enclosure and test set-up were placed inside a Bio-Safety Cabine (BSC). The fan within the BSC was always kept off during test runs. Four Clinical isolates of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus and one isolate of Acinetobacter baumannii were transferred into Blood agar and MacConkey’s agar. This was incubated at 37 °C for approximately two days.

It was observed that positive control blood agar and MacConkey’s agar plates showed growth, whereas inoculated plates showed no growth in 48 hours.

There was growth of coagulase negative Staphylococcus and Bacillus subtilis in the negative control plates after 48 hours of incubation at 37 °C. There was no growth in the test plates after 48 hours of incubation at 37°C.
